GCash Issues Statement Amid System Glitch: “No funds lost”

GCash Issues Statement Following Complaints of Missing Funds Due to Alleged Unauthorized Transactions

GCASH – The popular mobile wallet service in the Philippines has issued a statement amid the controversial system glitch.

On Tuesday (May 9, 2023), According to Gilda Maquilan, GCash’s vice president for corporate communications, the company denied any loss of funds from its users despite claims of missing money due to unauthorized transactions.

Numerous users have reported several complaints about unauthorized transactions, where some of their cash were allegedly transferred to bank accounts ending in 5239, starting on Monday (May 8, 2023).

Maquilan said that users will receive their funds back by 3 pm today.

“There is no fund loss at doon po sa ating mga na-inconvenience, ito pong amount na ito ay mare-reflect, maba-balance out sa kanilang account. Bigyan lang po kami ng until 3 p.m. today at ito’y mare-reflect back doon sa kanilang mga account,” Maquilan said.

The cause of the glitch is currently being investigated by the company, and it is unknown whether their systems were hacked. Despite a Facebook post on Monday stating that GCash has “restored their services,” the app was still inaccessible to some users.

Jun de Leon, president of Laban TNVS, said that 300 of his colleagues’ transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers were experiencing the same issue with their GCash accounts, and he requested the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to block the bank accounts where the funds were purportedly transferred.

De Leon also alleged that their one-time PINs (OTPs) and MPIN codes had been compromised. GCash apologized to its clients for the disruption caused by the glitch.
