PNP Warns Modus of Scammers Offering Jobs in Shopee and Lazada

The Philippine National Police (PNP) warned the public against modus jobs being offered on online shopping platforms Shopee and Lazada.

The PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group has issued a caution to the general people who are looking for full-time or part-time employment online. Authorities warn consumers not to believe online offers right away since they could be a fraud.

Online job scammers encourage their victims through numerous social media platforms, particularly well-known online shopping applications such as Lazada and Shopee. When a victim clicks on a particularly risky link, the victim’s confidential information is accessed, according to the organization.

According to PNP, the fraudster will send a link where the victim will create an account where the victim will pay for the bogus orders before the tasking mode can commence. “Tasking” is a method of convincing the victim to pay through the e-wallet.

“Magbibigay ng napakadelikadong link na puwedeng ma-access ang mga pribadong impormasyon ng biktima kapag kanya itong na-click. Sa link na ito papagawin ang biktima ng account kungsaan makikita ang mga pekeng order na kailangang bayaran ng biktima bago makapag-umpisa ang modus na tasking,” explained the agency.

The victim will be given the choice to cash out or withdraw during the first tasking. To acquire the trust of their victim, the money will be returned with profit. As a result, the tasking that must be paid for the recharge requested by the thieves is increased.

The worst part is that even after all of the tasks have been completed and the victim has paid the additional charges, the victim’s money cannot be withdrawn because it is part of the so-called exit scam modus,” according to the PNP-ACG. The agency advises the public to carefully check the job they are applying for in order to avoid becoming a victim.
