Several Chickens in Batangas Poultry Farm Died Due to Extreme Heat
HEAT WAVE – A number of chickens at a poultry farm in Ibaan, Batangas died due to the intense heatwave in the area
According to reports, seven chickens owned by Adela Catilo died last week due to extreme weather conditions.
“Nagsabay-sabay, tapos ‘yung the rest naman nagpunta sila doon sa medyo malamig. ‘Yung lugar na kanilang pinagkamatayan, napakatindi ng sikat ng araw,” Catilo said.
Due to this, Catilo has decided to halt raising chickens until she sells the remaining ones because of fears of the possible effects of the El Niño phenomenon. PAGASA raised the El Niño alert in the country last Tuesday (May 2, 2023).
“Usually magkakaroon ng below normal weather condition, madalang ang pag-ulan kaya maaapektuhan din sila,” Michael Mangubat, chief meteorological officer of PAGASA Batangas said.
To keep the remaining chickens alive until they are sold, Catilo gives them electrolytes twice a day. An agriculturist said that providing chickens with electrolytes and vitamins helps during hot weather.
