JM de Guzman Says ‘Kinain po ako ng fame’
JM DE GUZMAN – Kapamilya actor and singer JM de Guzman admitted that he struggled with fame during the early part of his showbiz career.
Juan Miguel Gob de Guzman, also known by his stage as JM de Guzman, is a Filipino actor, singer, model, and mixed martial artist. JM is currently working as an exclusive talent of Star Magic.
He is known for his teleseryes “Angelito: Batang Ama” and “Precious Hearts Romances Presents: Araw Gabi.” The Kapamilya star has established himself as one of today’s most promising actors.
JM De Guzman sought treatment for drug abuse from late 2013 to 2014 and checked into a rehab facility for 17 months. He had a two-year romance with the actress Jessy Mendiola before that. They split up sometime in 2013, blaming JM’s drug addiction as the primary cause.
In a previous article, the 34-year-old actor opened up about his heartbreak. He revealed that he “really went crazy because of love.”

JM de Guzman was recently interviewed by Star Magic head Lauren Dyogi for Star Magic Celebrity Confessions. The video was uploaded on Star Magic’s Youtube channel.
During the interview, the actor admitted that he struggled with fame during the early part of his showbiz career. He also recalled how he started acting to finally being one of the leading men of the ABS-CBN network.
“Na-overwhelmed ako before ‘Angelito: Batang Ama’ kaso after that show basta kinain po ako ng fame, hindi ko na-handle ang fame. Hindi ko alam kung paano iha-handle ang fame,” he told Dyogi.
“Yumabang po ako, nagkaroon po ako ng big role. Hindi ko lang alam kung ano ang gagawin ko siguro. I was so arrogant to ask for guidance. I wasn’t healed pa at that time. ….May factor din ang love. Kapag nai-in love, parehas umiiral ang love sa career. Tapos ‘yung time na ‘yon hindi pa ito (‘yung utak) ko umiiral,” JM said.
JM asserted that he had a greater understanding of success now.
“Goal ko as an artist is to have a purpose. Kung bakit po ako nagpe-perform. Why do I have to maintain certain disposition in life. Nahanap ko po pero gusto ko kapitan lang,” he said.
