Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Surigao del Norte, April 22, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.8 magnitude quake in Surigao del Norte today, Saturday, April 22, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few weeks ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Surigao del Norte. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 4.8..

The earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte, today, Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 09:06 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit General Luna.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Norte was located at 09.71°North, 126.26°East – 014 km South 53° East of General Luna. It had a depth of focus of 015 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. No intensity was felt as per the release of the quake-monitoring agency but the following instrumental intensities were logged:

  • Intensity I
    • Cabadbaran, Agusan del Norte
    • Borongan City, Eastern Samar
  • Intensity II
    • Surigao, Surigao del Norte
