Azurin Warns PBBM to be Careful in Choosing New PNP Chief
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr has warned President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr (PBBM) for selecting a new chief.
A week before his retirement, the PNP head informed the President that there are groups or persons eroding the police force’s integrity. According to the present PNP Chief, his replacement should be stricter than he is.
“I have to warn even the president. Sir, be careful in selecting ‘yung papalit sa ‘kin. Definitely, hindi ordinaryo ‘yung nabangga ko rito. Napakaliit ko lamang na kayang-kaya nila ako. How long can we stand the heat? That’s the problem. That’s why I’m worried sa ating pangulo, kung sino ang pipiliin niya na papalit sakin,” he said in a press conference in Camp Crame.
“Ang ire-recommend ko pa nga ay mas mahigpit sa akin. Dahil nagle-level up tayo. Kung mapapansin mo, ako yata ang isang Chief PNP na walang asim at walang arrive, ‘yun ang nasa record. Kaya ang kailangan natin eh iyong nag-level up pa,” he added.
Based on the report, Azurin will retire on April 24, his 56th birthday. He also urged his successor to remain loyal to the President. Meanwhile, Azurin emphasized the PNP’s key successes throughout his tenure.
He also defended his brother for his involvement in the P6.7 billion drug reform, which involved two high-ranking generals. Azurin claims that he will depart the company better than when he arrived, with his “integrity intact.”
