LTO Issues Order to Remove Priority Lane for LGBTQ+ Members
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has recently issued an order to remove the priority lane designated for LGBTQ+ members in Cagayan Valley.
This decision comes after the said priority lane received criticism, with concerns raised that it may create a wrong impression and foster animosity towards LGBTQ+ individuals.
LTO chief Jay Art Tugade released a statement acknowledging the issue and explaining that the priority lane was considered an isolated case. He further stated that he has ordered its removal in order to prevent any confusion or misunderstanding that may arise from its existence.

“I understand that the region’s leadership merely conceptualized the activity in a desire to recognize the LGBTQ+ community. There was no intention to offend or unnecessarily put them in the spotlight,” Tugade said.
The priority lane for LGBTQ+ members was initially implemented as part of the “gender and development” project of LTO for the month of March, according to the LTO Region 2 (Cagayan Valley Office).
However, due to the feedback and concerns raised, the decision to remove it has been made.

This move by the LTO has sparked discussions and debates among various groups, with some expressing disappointment and frustration over the removal of the priority lane.
LGBTQ+ advocates and supporters argue that the priority lane was a positive step towards promoting inclusivity and recognition of LGBTQ+ rights, and its removal may be seen as a setback in the pursuit of equality and non-discrimination.
On the other hand, there are also those who support the decision to remove the priority lane, citing concerns about its potential impact on other road users and the perception of preferential treatment for a specific group.
