Dalai Lama Has Been Misinterpreted Says Tibetan Exile Leader

Tibetan President In Exile Defends Dalai Lama’s Controversial Video

DALAI LAMA – The leader of the Tibetan government in exile has defended the Dalai Lama in response to a video showing the spiritual leader kissing a kid on the lips and then requesting that the child “su*k my tongue.”

Dalai Lama apologized on Monday morning after a video showed him kissing a boy on the lips and encouraging him to “suck his tongue” went viral on social media. A statement from his office said that the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader expressed his regret to the young boy and his family “as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused.”

His Holiness likes to playfully and jokingly tease everyone he meets, even in front of the public and cameras. He regrets it happened. The kiss was not mentioned in the comment.

The video was shot in the Dalai Lama’s temple in the Indian town of Dharamsala in February. The boy may be seen asking for a hug. The Dalai Lama motions to his cheek and says, “First here,” then gestures to his own lips and asks for another kiss. The 87-year-old priest in the video puts his forehead into the boy’s after saying, “And su*k my tongue.”

Upon seeing the clip online, millions of people immediately condemned it as “sick” and “pedophilic” and expressed outrage over the Dalai Lama’s behavior.

The Grammy-winning musician Cardi B recently reacted to Dalai Lama’s viral video. The singer wrote on Twitter that “the world is full of predators.”

Based on a report from ABS-CBN, the head of the exiled Tibetan government defended the Dalai Lama, claiming that a viral video of him instructing a boy to su*k his tongue had misconstrued him.

At the Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asia’s New Delhi chapter, Penpa Tsering asserted that the spiritual leader’s compassion and love transcend all of the misconceptions that the video has sown.

“Really hurts us,” Tsering remarked in reference to the unfavorable response to the video. “We are hurt by the insinuations.”

Tsering said His Holiness was just making a “jovial prank about the tongue.” In an interview with local Tibetan media, the boy shown in the video expressed how wonderful it was to encounter someone with “high positive energy.”
