Tuffwow Workers Unite to Create Eco-Friendly Hollow Blocks
Tuffwow workers united to create eco-friendly hollow blocks out of plastic waste, which were more resilient than the traditional hollow blocks.
As the world grapples with the increasing environmental challenges posed by waste accumulation, innovative solutions are being sought to mitigate the impact on our planet.
One such innovative approach gaining traction is the concept of recycling waste into construction materials, particularly hollow blocks. Hollow blocks, also known as concrete blocks or bricks, are a common building material used in construction projects worldwide.
Traditionally made from cement, sand, and water, these blocks are known for their strength, durability, and affordability.
Recently, the members of the Toledo United Farmers, Fishermen, and Women Workers (Tuffwow) have shown their innovative approach to environmental sustainability through a striking demonstration.
They are proudly grinding plastic waste, which serves as a primary material in the production of eco-friendly hollow blocks. This groundbreaking initiative is known as Project B.R.I.C.K (Building Resilient Infrastructure for Communities and Kalikasan).
The project is a cutting-edge program that upcycles ash byproducts obtained from the Therma Visayas, Inc plant, a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power in Toledo City.
These ash byproducts are ingeniously mixed with laminated plastic, resulting in the creation of “ecobricks” or hollow blocks that are reportedly nine times more resilient compared to traditional hollow blocks.
Through this dynamic and sustainable approach, Tuffwow is making a significant contribution towards creating a more environmentally conscious and resilient future for their communities and the natural environment.
