SCAM VICTIM – A lady netizen has expressed her disappointment and frustrations after losing a huge amount of money on Gcash.
A Facebook user named Frances Cherlee Espartero has shared her frustrating experience after losing a certain amount of cash in a popular mobile wallet in the country. The post garnered various reactions from the online community.
All business transactions of Espartero’s boyfriend were done in Gcash, as it was the preferred mode of payment for their clients. The user’s account was used since the boyfriend was not present in the Philippines then.
However, during their family vacation on Holy Week, when there was no signal, someone was able to gain access to Frances’ account and transfer all the funds to an alleged fraudster’s account.
No OTP/MPIN was provided, as it was clear that such information should not be disclosed.
The user has been in contact with GCash’s escalation team since then but has only received information that the funds are no longer intact and an apology, which the user finds lacking.
Espartero has been informed that a court order must disclose information about the fraudster. The user expresses frustration with GCash’s security system, considering the P500,000 limit on business accounts, and the delays in receiving a response from GCash.
The lady netizen mentions that she will be personally responsible for repaying the P44,321 to her boyfriend, but emphasizes that GCash should take responsibility for their part, as the user believes the issue is not their fault.
She questions why GCash has not made improvements to their system instead of just apologizing. The user also notes that they have seen numerous reports on social media of people being scammed on GCash during Holy Week, and wonders if it could be an inside job. The latter challenges the firm to prove them wrong.
