Bangsamoro Government Declares March 27, 2023 as Special Non-Working Holiday

Bangsamoro Government declares March 27, 2023, as a special non-working holiday throughout the entire region.

Last Tuesday (March 21, 2023), the Bangsamoro Transition Authority Parliament passed Resolution No. 325. The resolution asks Honorable Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim to declare March 27, 2023, as a special non-working holiday.

The Bangsamoro Government aims to declare the date as a special holiday over the entire Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in commemoration of the signing of the comprehensive agreement.

The resolution aims to give the BARMM people the opportunity to commemorate, celebrate and participate in the ceremonies and other activities.

Art. VII, Sec 32 of the Republic Act No. 11054 grants power to the chief minister to issue executive orders and other policies.

The Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro (CAB) is a landmark peace agreement signed between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) on March 27, 2014.

It is considered one of the most significant achievements in the country’s peace process, as it seeks to address the longstanding conflict in the southern Philippines.

The conflict in the southern Philippines has been ongoing for more than four decades and has resulted in the displacement of thousands of people, deaths, and destruction of property. The conflict was rooted in the historical injustices and marginalization experienced by the Moro people, who are predominantly Muslims, in the predominantly Catholic Philippines.

CAB is designed to provide a more comprehensive and inclusive framework for the Bangsamoro people to govern themselves, promote development and address the historical grievances of the Moro people.
