5 Elected Officials in Iloilo Province Reportedly Received Death Threats

Police authorities revealed that five (5) elected officials in Iloilo province reportedly received death threats.

According to the threat assessment of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), elected politicians in the province of Iloilo are in danger of losing their lives. Major Rolando Arao, spokesperson for the IPPO, did not release the identity of the elected officials who received threats for security concerns.

Arao stated that the information they received will be re-evaluated. Although there is a threat to the lives of the five elected officials, there is no “eminent threat” or significant threat against them, according to reports.

Palomo also stated that the PNP is prepared to provide such personnel with enhanced security detail if necessary. The danger assessment was conducted by police in Region 6 in response to a series of ambushes on government officials throughout the country.

Meanwhile, IPPO stated that regions in the province that are predicted to be volatile during the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) should be closely observed. The IPPO’s goal is to complete the election with no election-related incidents in the province.

The submission of certificates of candidacy will commence on July 3-7, according to the Commission on Elections (Comelec). The election will take place from July 3 until November 14.
