Bureau of Immigration Apologizes After Filipina Traveler Missed Flight Due To “Irrelevant” Questions From An Immigration Officer
BUREAU OF IMMIGRATION – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) apologized to a Pinay traveler who missed her flight after she was delayed by “irrelevant” questions from an immigration officer.
The unfortunate experience of a freelance writer/stylist who missed her flight due to a lengthy interview by an immigration officer was recently reported. The PHP19,000 worth of plane tickets that Cham Tanteras paid to go to Israel was wasted.
The reason is the lengthy interview of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel with Cham. She explained how she missed her flight in a now-viral TikTok video.
The other question in the interview had nothing to do with Cham Tanteras’ trip. She was searched for her yearbook, and graduation photo, and was even asked about the state of her parent’s relationship. She arrived early at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 for her solo trip to Israel in December 2022.

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) issued an apology to Cham Tanteras on Thursday. “A social media post recently made rounds on TikTok wherein a Filipina passenger recounted her unpleasant experience with immigration personnel in December 2022. She shared how she was asked numerous questions which she deemed irrelevant,” the BI said in a statement.
It further stated that a full incident report had been requested from the relevant immigration officer and that an investigation had been launched right afterward.
“We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused the Filipino passenger and other Filipino passengers,” the BI said.
The bureau then cautioned travelers against unlawful recruitment and human trafficking, stating that “numerous young urban professionals” are prey to syndicates.
