Mel Martinez shared something about Maricel Soriano
Diamond Star Maricel Soriano has these words to her younger brother Mel Martinez when he started his career in the entertainment industry.
Maricel, also known as Maria in the entertainment industry, is one of the icons. He has done different acting projects in various genres. She still continues to inspire a lot of younger artists with what she has achieved.
Her brother Mel followed her footsteps in showbiz. In a recent interview for his new movie D’ Aswang Slayerz in which he is the lead star, he shared what his older sister told him, based on the article in PUSH.
He admitted that until now, he feels the pressure of being the brother of Maricel Soriano. “Kasi siyempre, being the brother of the Diamond Star it’s both an honor, number one, pero pangalawa, pressure. Kasi ang laki ng expectations ng tao. ‘Ay, kapatid ni Maricel Soriano ‘yan, naku dapat magaling ‘yan. Dapat ganito, ganyan,‘” the actor said.
This is the reason why he is always on his toes whenever he acts. He wants his sister to be proud of him. Mel also said that he wants to achieve more than what Maricel has achieved when it comes to the comedy genre.
“Kung magiging kapatid ka ng Diamond Star, kailangang higitan mo ito hindi ‘yung parang at par ka lang. Dapat, you know, eh, competitive ako. Ate sorry, ha,” he said.
Then, the actor shared what the Diamond Star told him when the time he decided to pursue a career in showbiz.
“Sinabi niya sa akin child star pa ako nito, ‘Etong pag-aartista mo, huwag mo akong gamitin. Gusto ko gumawa ka ng sarili mong pangalan,’” Mel Martinez shared.
The actor added that this is the reason why Maricel was always doing projects in ABS-CBN while he was in GMA-7. He does not want to use his sister’s status in showbiz and he does not want to be in her shadows.
“Kaya nagsumikap din ako na I have to establish my own identity,” the brother of Maricel Soriano stressed.
