Careless CEO claims that Liza Soberano was offered to audition for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’
Jeffery Oh, the Chief Executive Officer of Careless, the company handling the career of Liza Soberano said that the actress was offered to audition for the role of MJ or Michelle Jones-Watson played by Zendaya in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Liza is aspiring to establish her name in the international entertainment scene. This is the reason why she decided to change her management. She is previously managed by Ogie Diaz and co-managed by Star Magic, the talent management company of ABS-CBN.
Liza already had a starting international project, the movie Lisa Frankenstein. However, based on the article in Preview, Jeffrey Oh said that years ago, Liza could have had the chance to do an international project already.
Jeffrey is a Korean-American businessman and he believes that the Philipines is filled with amazing talents that could make it to the global scene. “I feel like in the Philippines, the talent is better. I think the world recognizes it. The Philippines is the most exciting place in the world for entertainment executives,” he said.
He was on the panel of the 2nd Philippine Creative Industries Summit when he had this statement. Then, when he was asked to give a closing message, the businessman talked about Liza Soberano’s missed opportunity.
“Who loves the character of Zendaya in [Spider-Man: Homecoming]?” he asked the audience and said that Liza was offered to audition for the female lead character.
“They reached out to her to audition [for the role of] Mary Jane, one of the most iconic characters. And she was not allowed because she had to do the same thing she was always doing,” he said.
Jeffrey continued that Liza’s contract with ABS-CBN was the factor that hindered her to audition for the female lead role in the Marvel movie. He also pointed out that Liza’s 10-year contract with her former home network was “unheard of anywhere else in the world.”
“Imagine a Filipina actress was [the star in] one of the biggest Marvel movies in history. Imagine [if] she was Mary Jane, what that would do for Philippine entertainment,” the Careless CEO said, adding that these kinds of contracts are hindering artists to have the chance to widen their horizons and explore the international stage.
“She could’ve been representing our country all over the world. There are other stars in the same situation,” Jeffrey Oh said about Liza Soberano.
