Cong. Teves Breaks Silence To Deny Involvement In Degamo Slay

TEVES – Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Arnolfo ‘Arnie’ Teves Jr. finally surfaced and broke his silence to deny involvement in the killing of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo.

Arnie Teves Jr. is considered one of Governor Roel Degamo’s political enemies. Henry Teves, Arnie’s brother, ran against Degamo in the Local and National elections held in May 2022.

By a slim, margin, Henry was declared the winner, but Degamo contested the result. Election officials granted Degamo’s protest, allowing him to credit votes cast for Ruel Degamo, a nuisance candidate, surpassing Henry’s vote total in the process.

Arnie Teves has commented on the brutal murder of Governor Roel Degamo. On Monday, March 6, 2023, Teves posted a video on social media in which he made his announcement.

The politician condemned the murder of the governor and said he had nothing to do with it. Teves is currently abroad for stem cell treatment.

“Ito po si Kuya Arnie, nakikiramay sa pamilya ng namatayan. Ang mga ganitong pangyayari ng patayan ay hindi ko gusto at hindi kanais-nais,” said Teves

The 16-minute video began with Arnie Teves revealing that he is still receiving treatment abroad. He continued by denying any involvement in the murder of Degamo on March 4, claiming he had no ulterior motive. Teves claimed to have learned through his sources that a number of individuals wanted to hold him responsible for the murder of Degamo.

Teves questioned the security measures put in place at the governor’s residence in the Pamplona town where the massacre took place while denouncing the brutal killing that not only took the lives of Degamo and eight other people.

The congressman questioned whether some of Degamo’s security officers knew the attackers, three of whom happened to be ex-army soldiers, citing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage that authorities published.

“Pinapasok lang, ganung lamang yung mga tao. Sa aking sariling pag-aanalisa, parang magkakakila sila (gunmen and members of Degamo’s security team),” Teves said.
