Frat Newbie Speaks on John Matthew Salilig’s Death

FRAT NEWBIE – A newbie of Tau Gamma Phi fraternity who claimed that he was with John Matthew Salilig at the welcoming rites gave a testimony.

The death of Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig sparked headlines. A 3rd year chemical engineering student of the said university, John Matthew was found dead in Imus, Cavite a week after he was reported missing.

According to his brother, John Michael, he informed him that he will be attending the welcoming rites of their fraternity group. His brother was not worried as he was already a member of the said frat in Zamboanga City. However, since then, there was no message or calls from his younger brother.

The Salilig family received a message from a dummy account informing them that John Matthew died after the welcoming rites. The said message also contained that his body was buried in Cavite.

A week after he was reported missing, the body of John Matthew Salilig was found in a shallow grave in Imus, Cavite. An autopsy was conducted to determine John Matthew Salilig’s cause of death.

Recently, Roi dela Cruz who claimed that he is a frat newbie who was with John Matthew Salilig during the welcoming rites reached out to the authorities. Based on a report on GMA News, dela Cruz confirmed the six (6) persons of interest in the case.

The frat newbie claimed that during the initiation rites, he heard that someone asked John Matthew if he is okay and the chemical engineering student responded in the affirmative – “Okay lang ako”.

Roi dela Cruz admitted that he thought of quitting as he can no longer bear the pain. The frat members conducting the initiation also allegedly let candle wax dripped to his skin and it was removed using a belt. One of the persons of interest that he identified is Tau Gamma Phi – Adamson University chapter Tung Cheng Teng Jr.

Currently, investigations are ongoing and the Salilig family is determined to seek justice for the death of John Matthew.
