2 Stores in Puerto Princesa Scammed by Male Suspect Who Pretended To Be a Customer

Male Suspect Who Pretended To Be a Customer Scams 2 Stores in Puerto Princesa

On Monday, (February 27, 2023), two stores in the city of Puerto Princesa were scammed by a man who allegedly bought ten 25-kilogram sacks of rice and did not pay for them

According to the owner of the rice store in San Jose, who chose not to be named, a man identified Jay Marcelo came to their store and asked about the price of rice, requesting a discount because he would buy ten bags and have them delivered.

Marcelo reportedly said that he would pay upon delivery to Alta Homes in Barangay San Jose, but when the owner went to the delivery location with the bags of rice, Marcelo texted to have the rice delivered to a store in Barangay Tiniguiban instead.

When the owner arrived at the store in Tiniguiban and unloaded the rice, Marcelo told them to follow him and meet at a bank in Barangay San Pedro. Marcelo then overtakes their vehicle while riding a motorcycle.

The owner of the rice store waited outside the bank for over half an hour, but Marcelo did not show up. They decided to return the rice to the store in Tiniguiban.

When they returned to the store, the store owner told them that they had already paid P10,000 to Marcelo for the rice. This is when the two store owners realized that they were both scammed by the suspect.

The owner of the store in Tiniguiban said that Marcelo sold them Jasmine rice for P1,000 per bag.

The two stores went to the Barangay Hall of Tiniguiban to agree to share the rice between them. The owner of the rice store in San Jose reminds everyone to be cautious when transacting with buyers, especially if they want to pay upon delivery.
