MTRCB Chair Lala Sotto-Antonio on Batang Quiapo issue regarding the negative depiction of Muslims.

BATANG QUIAPO – Coco Martin’s latest primetime series FPJ’s Batang Quiapo is facing an issue and MTRCB has this statement.

Muslims are a cultural minority in the Philippines and these negative depictions of them in media seem to make a great impact on them. And since they are the minority, they tend to be sensitive about this matter. As much as possible, they would want to be portrayed in a good manner.

And their image depicted negatively in “Batang Quiapo” caused a rally from some of them.

Regarding the matter, the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chair Lala Sotto-Antonio made a response to this.

They have recognized the concern of the Honorable Ziaur-Rahman Alonto Adiong. Accordingly, the “discriminatory and offensive portrayals” of Filipino Muslims not only harm our Muslim brothers and sisters but also “counter the call of unity” of President Bongbong Marcos.

“We are institutionalizing guidelines that are responsive to cultural sensitivities of Filipino-Muslim viewers,” it added. CCM Production has apologized to the agency.

Meanwhile, this FPJ classic adapted to a television series fared well in ratings. According to Nielsen Nationwide Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM), the series scored 11.72% combined rating last February 14 and their online viewers peaked at over 300,000 viewers.

The series is aired from Monday to Friday,  8 p.m. in Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, Cinemo, A2Z, TV5, iWantTFC, and TFC.
