Dianne Medina ‘Subunit’ Issue, Host Explains Mistake

This is what Dianne Medina said about her “subunit” issue.

DIANNE MEDINA – Going viral after mispronouncing a K-Pop buzzword is Dianne Medina and this is what she said about this.

PTV’s ‘Rise and Shine Pilipinas’ host Dianne Medina received mockings and was made fun of on social media after mispronouncing a K-Pop buzzword. She mispronounced the word “subunit” which she read “suboonit” instead of “sub-yunit”.

During the ‘Talk Biz’ segment, Medina reported K-pop group TWICE’s highly-anticipated debut in Japan. This debut will not include all members of the group but will instead be consisted of Mina, Sana, and Momo.

She looked comfortable delivering the news when she did the mispronunciation twice. She was ridiculed online for this matter. But she was able to redeem herself in another segment of her show and strongly put emphasis on “subunit” correctly pronounced finally.

Replying to some comments online, Dianne explained herself and admitted her fault. She relied on the prompter and did not do some research. She just assumed that it was Japanese word and insisted that it would have been different if only a small dash was put in between the two-syllable word.

“yes pero kasi since wala akong alam sa kpop mas ok sana kung nalagyan ng space so na guide ako. na assume ko kasi na japanese word. although dapat rin as a host nagsearch ako and didnt rely sa prompter anyway atleast i know my lesson now,” she explained.

In another comment, she expressed that this happening wasn’t embarrassing for her. She believed that this was allowed to happen for her to learn something. She really did learn something such as a new word and what she can do more as a news anchor to ensure that what she will deliver to the public is based on facts.
