Update on Death Toll of Earthquake in Turkey, Syria – Lastest Count

DEATH TOLL OF EARTHQUAKE IN TURKEY, SYRIA – Here is an update on the latest total number of deaths recorded due to the quake that hits Turkey and Syria.

Last week, Turkey and Syria were hit by a strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8. Most residents in the quake-hit areas were still on their beds and sleep when the strong shaking happened as it was around 4:00 a.m.

The 7.8 magnitude quake that hit Turkey and Syria brought several buildings down. Many people were unfortunately covered by the debris of the structures. Several households were also severaly damaged by the quake.

A few days ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) expressed its fear that the death toll of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria will reach 20,000. The number of deaths really did and UN Relief Chief Martin Griffiths expressed his fear that the number of deaths will double.

According to Griffiths, there are failures in providing relief assistance to the victims of the quake. He stressed that the victims rightly feel that they are abandoned. He assured that he will work on the problem.

The rescue operations are now ongoing and rescue teams continue to pull bodies out from the debris of the fall structures. Several animals were also buried.

Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, the death toll of earthquake in Turkey and Syria has reached over 35,000. According to medics and officials, there are 31,643 deaths recorded in Turkey while at least 3,581 people died in Syria.

More than 12 buildings collapsed in Turkey due to the quake. There are overseas Filipino workers who died abroad due to the quake. More updates may be posted soon.
