Boy Dies After Falling Down Stairs in China
An eight-year-old boy passed away after falling down stairs and even raised his hand seven times to tell his teacher he was sick.
On Monday (February 13, 2023), the death of an eight-year-old child in China in November 2020 caused an outpouring of outrage on the internet after the boy’s mother shared the story on the Weibo platform.
According to the mother, the boy had repeatedly raised his hand to alert his teacher that he was feeling unwell but was allegedly ignored by the educator. The boy then fell down the stairs at school and later passed away.
The mother shared surveillance footage from the class that showed the boy raising his hand seven times in ten minutes and resting his head on his desk as the teacher continued with the lesson.
The mother claimed that the teacher had dragged her son down the stairs and yanked him away from the railing, leading to the fall and a fatal injury to the back of his head.
She questioned why the teacher did not alert the boy’s parents of his illness or take his temperature, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, when the father was waiting outside the school to pick him up.
A second court case regarding the incident began on Thursday, but details of the trial remain unknown. The mother stated that she could not accept the verdict of the first case. She and the boy’s father believe that the school and its teachers must take responsibility for failing to provide timely medical attention.
The incident has sparked a heated discussion online, with many netizens placing the blame on the teacher for not being vigilant and ignoring the child’s repeated requests for help.
Others have commented that children should not be overly obedient and should seek help from the infirmary if their issue is not resolved after reporting it to the teacher.
