Lovi Poe was asked about Coco Martin’s directing style
Kapamilya actress Lovi Poe shared her thoughts on the “no-script” acting of her Batang Quiapo leading man Coco Martin has started and continues to do.
This style of acting was started by Coco when he also became the director of the series Ang Probinsyano. He would just tell the actors what is needed in a scene and let them do their own thing.
Coco also did this approach in his Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2022 movie Labyu with an Accent with Jodi Sta Maria. This time, the same approach will be applied in his upcoming series.
In a recent media conference, the cast of Batang Quiapo was asked about the “no-script” acting. Veteran stars like Irma Adlawan and Charo Santos said that initially, as those who started in the industry many years ago, this is something new to them. It is because they were used to a very structured style in the production and they would study their script and do character background.
When Lovi Poe was asked about this approach, she said that she enjoys improvisations. “Sorry, I’m not a super fan of following completely the script,” the former Kapuso actress said.
She also said that as she knows her character and if it is needed, she would add something. However, she acknowledges the fact that there are directors who really want to stick with the script.
Lovi stressed that she is fond of saying lines as what comes out naturally from the heart. On the other hand, she still wants to know the structure and where the story leads and this is something they talked about.
Coco Martin explained that out of respect, he is letting the actors have their freedom on how they would do a certain scene. Watch this video from Kapamilya Circle.
