Earthquake Today: 5.5 Magnitude Quake Hits Eastern Samar

Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Eastern Samar, January 28, 2023

EARTHQUAKE TODAY – The Phivolcs recorded a 5.5 magnitude quake in Eastern Samar today, Saturday, January 28, 2023.

Following the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that jolted a part of Davao Occidental a few days ago, another strong quake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The quake hit a part of Eastern Samar. According to the agency, it had a magnitude of 5.5.

The earthquake that struck Eastern Samar today, January 28, 2023, at 04:25 a.m. was tectonic in origin. It specifically hit Homonhon Island in Guiuan.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Eastern Samar was located at 10.75°North, 125.59°East – 014 km North 89° West of Homonhon Island with a depth of focus of 080 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake but there may be aftershocks. Based on the record released, the following intensities and instrumental intensities were recorded in these areas:
