The 30 personnel of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) are under investigation over the “E-wallet corruption scheme” in Bilibid.

The BuCor leadership is now probing 30 of their employees for involvement in the mobile wallet corruption scam inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP). According to Interim BuCor Chief Gregorio Catapang, such BuCor workers have been placed on administrative leave.

Catapang also promised to sue such BuCor guards for engaging in illicit acts within BuCor. Some detainees first stated that Bilibid guards charged them P100 for every P1,000 their family sent them via the popular E-wallet app.

The P300,000 they made from the illegal business was also taken away from them. Meanwhile, the BuCor recently denied claims that they are allowing a group to distribute a solicitation letter for the PDL program in a post on their social media website.

According to BuCor, the solicitation letter was supposedly signed by Roloando R. Camogao. According to the report, Camogao is a former PDL member and the founding chairwoman of the ‘Rehab Society Association, NBP Reservation, Zamboanga Peninsula.

It is believed to be for PDL programs at Zamboanga City’s San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF). However, the BuCor emphasized that they have no affiliation with the aforementioned group. They also stated that they do not solicit funds from private persons or businesses for the PDLs.
