Drug Enforcement Group Cop Nabbed in a Buy-Bust Ops in Manila

Police authorities arrested a cop who is an active member of a drug enforcement group in a buy-bust operation in Manila.

Colonel Red Maranan, Chief of the Public Information Office (PIO) of the Philippine National Police (PNP), claimed an active police officer attached to the Drug Enforcement Group was arrested in the purported buy-bust operation in Sta. Cruz is located in Manila. PSSG Ed Dyson Banaag, 36, of Barangay Isidro in Pasay City, was identified as the suspect.

Drug Enforcement Cop Buy-Bust

Based on the report, Banaag is assigned to the Camp Crame Police Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG). The arrest was made at 9:45 p.m. on a section of Rizal Avenue near Lope De Vega Street, which is part of Barangay 312 Zone 31 District 3.

Banaag attempted to flee on a motorcycle before being apprehended but was cornered after losing his balance and falling off the ground. The suspect was formerly assigned to the criminal investigation and detection group (CIDG) before being moved to the PNP Drug Enforcement Group, according to the NCRPO’s Regional Drug Enforcement Unit.

More than 25 kilograms of a drug believed to be methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) worth P170,000 were recovered from him. The suspect is being held by the RDEU-NCRPO while the inquiry is ongoing.

Banaag was not the first PDEG agent detained for unlawful drug use. PSSg Raymund Portes and Jerry Saratobias, both CIDG officials who intervened during the inventory and investigation conducted by the operative team, were also arrested during the operation.
