Senior Citizen Paraglider Sustains Injuries After Crashing in Mountainous Area While Flying
PARAGLIDE ACCIDENT – A senior citizen paraglider suffered injuries after crashing in a mountainous area in Oslob, Cebu.
Paragliding is the recreational and athletic adventure sport of flying paragliders: lightweight, free-flying, foot-launched glider aircraft with no solid primary structure. The pilot sits or rests supine in a cocoon-like ‘pod’ hung under a fabric wing.
A man-powered inflatable wing called a paraglider gives you the feeling of total freedom as you soar through the air. A paraglider is an ideal device to take on a trip or carry in a backpack because of its lightweight design.
The suspension lines, the pressure of air entering vents in the front of the wing, and the aerodynamic forces of the air flowing over the exterior all work together to keep the wing form.
The Facebook page “SunStar Cebu” has shared the photos of a 72-year-old paraglider who suffered injuries after crashing in a mountainous area in Oslob, Cebu. The post immediately spread like a wildfire online.
In the photos, the victim identified as Ronald Anthony Daryl Sharp from New Zealand lies on the ground after his paraglide crashed in a mountainous area. Several individuals came to his rescue.
The foreign national sustained a fracture in the arm due to the accident, the victim has been brought to a hospital for immediate medical treatment and medication.
The incident happened last Sunday (January 15, 2023).
