Ogie Diaz Laments Sudden Price Increase of Eggs in the Philippines
Talent manager and showbiz vlogger Ogie Diaz airs dismay at the sudden price increase of eggs in the Philippines.
Ogie couldn’t disguise his dismay when he learned that the price of eggs in the country was rising. According to some accounts, the price of eggs has risen from 7-8 pesos to 9 or 10 pesos for each piece.
The President’s Department of Agriculture explained that the price hike was caused by avian flu in Central Luzon. They believe that it will take at least five months for egg prices to return to normal.
Meanwhile, the celebrity YouTuber expressed disappointment on Twitter that, following onions, eggs are now the next basic commodity that may face price increases. Ogie also asked his followers if they could withstand the price hike.
“Pagkatapos ng sibuyas, itlog naman, nagkakaubusan at akyat presyo din. Kaya pa ba?” Ogie said in his tweet.
Some netizens also shared their disappointment over what’s happening to the agriculture sector of the country. Meanwhile, the price of onions is now slowly decreasing amid the government’s decision to import the said vegetable from other countries.
However, some critics questioned the timing of the importation, saying that the harvest season of local onions was coming already. DA gave onion importers until January 27 to send their goods to the country while the harvest season was expected to happen around February until April.
