Celeste Cortesi Darna Costume Is Just A Replacement? Team PH Clarifies This

Is it true that the Darna costume that Celeste Cortesi showcased during the NatCos was just a replacement?

Speculations surfaced that the Darna costume that Celeste Cortesi wore for the Miss Universe 2022 National Costume competition was just a replacement.

Previously, it was revealed that it was Celeste’s personal choice to wear the Darna costume and she really asked permission from Mars Ravelo‘s family, the creator of the iconic Filipino superheroine.

Based on the article in PEP, Team Philipines clarified that the Darna costume was not a second choice nor a last-minute replacement. Even before flying to the U.S., the accessories in Celeste Cortesi’s costume were already completed. They only had to change the top and the bottom.

In an email, the team of Oliver Tolentino, who created Celeste’s Darna costume’s top and bottom, as well as her evening gown for the preliminary competition, explained what happened.

Celeste only got permission from the Ravelo family to use Darna for her costume just this year. “Tolentino had to rush the costume when Team Philippines visited the designer’s boutique in Beverly Hills, California, upon Celeste’s arrival in the States. It wasn’t until then that they realized what they already had wasn’t working out,” the email stated.

The team of the Filipino designer who is based in the States also said that usually, Tolentino does not create costumes but since Celeste fervently requested, he obliged. With the holidays and travel plans that the designer had, he was not able to get materials until January 2. That was a day before Celeste Cortesi had to fly to New Orleans.

“He took four days to create her look, using a headpiece and some other metal work accessories provided by Jerome Navarro,” the statement from Tolentino’s team stated.

The email also narrated the time when Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach had to ask for help from Oliver Tolentino for her gown for the preliminary competition. The Filipino designer gave Pia the red gown from his boutique and that has become a part of the journey of the third Pinay Miss Universe.
