Here’s the Reason Why People Consider Friday the 13th as “Malas” or Unlucky Day

FRIDAY THE 13TH – Here are some of the major reasons why the day is considered ‘malas’ or unlucky by some.

Superstitious people usually consider Friday the 13th as an ‘unlucky day’ and fear is always attached to it. However, there is no logical reason why it is considered unlucky.

However, some people have been linking it to the story of Jesus’ last supper and crucifixion in which there were 13 individuals present in the Upper Room on the 13th of Nisan Maundy Thursday, the night before his death on Good Friday. In Catholic belief, 13 is usually linked to bad luck due to the betrayal of Judas Iscariot to Jesus Christ.

Sumerians believe that 12 is the perfect number and claimed that 13 is an imperfect number.

According to a different ideology, the day has been linked to bad luck since 1307, when the French king issued orders to arrest hundreds of Knights Templar in France on a Friday the 13th. Most of them were put to death.

January 2023 has a Friday the 13th and the next will occur on October 13, 2023. two more are expected in September and December 2024.

Friggatriskaidekaphobia, which is defined as having a “morbid, severe, excessive, and irrational fear” of the day, affects some people who are afraid of Friday the 13th.

According to research by Jane Risen, a behavioral scientist at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, superstitions have the power to sway even skeptics.

Risen discovered in a 2016 study that both superstitious and non-superstitious individuals think a poor outcome is more probable when they’ve been cursed.
