DICT Reveals Deadline for SIM Registration To Avoid Your SIM Getting Deactivated

DICT Reminds People of SIM Card Registration Deadline

DICT – The Department of Information and Communications Technology revealed the deadline for SIM registration in the Philippines.

There is now a measure in the Philippines that mandate SIM cardholders to register. The said measure is the first law signed by President Bongbong Marcos. The proponents of the law push for it in the pursuit of lessening the incidents of scamming in the country.

The crafting of the implementing rules and regulations (IRR) of the law took a few weeks since it was approved by the President. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) coordinated with the telecommunication providers.

Last December, the IRR of the law mandating the SIM card registration in the Philippines was released. The SIM card holders are given 180 days.

Recently, the DICT reminded the public about the deadline for the SIM card registration in the country. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the government body reminded the public that the registration will run only until April 26.

Based on the report, all the SIMs that will not be registered by April 26 will be deactivated. Furthermore, the government body also reminds the public to register only using the official channels or your registration platforms of your telco provider.

According to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) data, as of January 10, 17 million SIMs have been registered and it is around 10% of the 169 million cellular subscribers in the country. Globe reported 7.6 million registrations while Smart reported 8 million registrations. According to DITO, 1.5 million of their subscribers have registered.

Daily, the DICT targets at least one (1) million SIM registration. The agency said that individuals who have complaints or concerns regarding the registration may call their hotline (1326).
