Celeste Cortesi was cheered by Pinoy pageant fans as she showcased her National Costume

ABS-CBN has this reaction to the Miss Universe 2022 National Costume of Philippines’ bet Celeste Cortesi who showcased the iconic red costume of superheroine Darna.

Celeste has been garnering positive feedback for her performance in the preliminary competition of the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world, or rather in the universe. A loud applause was given to her during the preliminary swimsuit competition because of the white cloak that she showcased with the handprints of children she met in Save the Children Philippines outreach in Marawi.

The Pinay beauty queen also looked so stunning in her ethereal gown made by Filipino fashion designer Oliver Tolentino. Following the swimsuit and evening gown competition, candidates proudly showcased their national costumes.

The crowd got excited when Miss Philippines entered the stage with her Darna costume. The Pinay superhero has been part of the country’s pop culture. Over the year, Darna has displayed various meanings of women empowerment.

In an Instagram post on ABS-CBN PR’s official page, the Kapamilya series thanked Celeste for perfectly representing the values of the Pinay superhero. “We are proud of Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi for championing Darna on the world stage through the 71st Miss Universe national costume competition,” the network stated.

The statement also shared the reaction of the family of Mars Ravelo, the creator of Darna. “The Ravelo family extends their full support, gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to show Darna to a global audience through our country’s official Miss Universe representative,” the Kapamilya series said.

It added that just like Darna, the hope is there for Celeste to continue to be a source of inspiration and empowerment for all women not just in the Philippines but in the world.

While Celeste Cortesi was showing the whole world her Darna Costume, the voice-over said, “Darna is the ultimate Filipina superhero and part of this country’s pop culture. She transforms from an ordinary woman with the help of a white stone, standing up for those who cannot defend themselves. Have no fear ’cause Darna is here in the Philippines.”
