EFREN ABUEG BIOGRAPHY – This is the life story of Efren Abueg, a creative writer, editor, author, novelist, short story writer, essayist, fictionist, professor, textbook writer, and anthologist.
Among the well-known Filipino writers who made significant contributions to Philippine literature is Efren Abueg. He is a creative writer, editor, author, novelist, short story writer, essayist, fictionist, professor, textbook writer, and anthologist. Some of his works have appeared in magazines like Liwayway, Bulaklak, Mod, and Homelife.
He was born on March 3, 1937, in Tanza, Cavite. He graduated elementary at Naic Elementary School and finished high school at Arellano (Public) High School in Batangas. He had his Associate In Arts degree and graduated with the degree of Bachelor in Science in Commerce, Major in Accounting in 1960 from Manuel L. Quezon University in Quiapo, Manila after finishing his Junior College at Imus Institute.
Abueg attended De La Salle University for his Masters in Arts in Language and Literature degree and his doctoral degree in Filipino and Translation Studies at the University of the Philippines Diliman. As a writer, he has received these recognitions:
- Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in years 1959, 1960, 1963, 1964, 1967, and 1974
- Timpalak ng KADIPAN, 1st prize in 1957
- Pang-alaalang Gawad Balagtas in 1969
- Timpalak Pilipino Free Press in 1969
- Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas in 1992 from Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL)
- Timpalak Liwayway sa Nobela in years 1964, 1965, and 1967

He also actively taught language and literature in Manuel L. Quezon University (1965–1972), Philippine College of Commerce (1971–1972), Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (1974–1977), Ateneo de Manila University (1977–1978), and De La Salle University (1979–2006).
Abueg was also president of Kapisanan ng mga Propesor sa Pilipino (KAPPIL) from 1986 to 1988 and Linangan ng Literatura ng Pilipinas. He also served as director of Philippine Folklore Society.
