Globe Telecom Releases Warning to SIM Card Users over Registration

Globe Telecom Warns Users in Sharing Info to Other People for SIM Registration

GLOBE TELECOM – The telecommunication giant released a warning to its SIM card users over the registration of SIMs.

Users of SIM cards in the Philippines are now mandated by law to register. It was the first measure signed by President Bongbong Marcos into a law. The authorities push for the said measure in the pursuit to lessen the incidents of scamming using mobile numbers in the Philippines.

Following the signing of the measure mandating the SIM card registration, the experts acknowledged that the law may not be able to totally eradicate the incidents of scamming but it may reduce the occurence of such incidents. Different telecommunication providers have launched platforms where SIM card users can register.

Most of the registrations can be done online. However, recently, Globe Telecom issued a warning for SIM card users regarding the registration.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Globe Telecom is reminding its users to register their SIM cards using official channels. The telco giant also has a warning on sharing information for assistance to the registration process saying that doing so can spark the risk that other people might get your information and impersonate you.

Globe stressed that some individuals are taking advantage of the situation by offering assistance to those who need it over the SIM card registration. Such assistance may be offered free or with a fee but taking the name, photo, birthdate, mobile phone number and address of the SIM card owner.

Based on the report, for protection, Globe Telecom advisers their SIM card users to only register to official Globe SIM registration channels and only ask family or friends when in need of assistance in registering.

“Your personal information is valuable and we urge you to protect it from those who may want to use it for unlawful purposes,” the telco giant said.
