Anna Sueangam-iam is the representative of Thailand in the 71st edition of the Miss Universe.
Anna’s camp released early this Friday, January 6, the national costume she will use in the pageant — the glittering dress inspired by flowing water and called “Songkran Devi.”
Songkran is the Thai New Year holiday, and Kimita Devi is considered the mythical Songkran goddess on Friday.
In the Philippines, the Feast of St. John The Baptist which is celebrated every June 24 is the equivalent of Songkran because they also wet the people with water. Anna’s national costume designs reflect the happiness, love, humility, and beauty of Thai culture passed down from generation to generation.
Part of Anne’s national costume is carrying a silver bowl that is used in the annual water festival as a symbol of Thai life, culture, tradition, and local wisdom.
