Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe hosting stint ended
Miss Universe Organization announced that it ended its five-year deal with popular American broadcast personality Steve Harvey.
Pageant fans have been familiar with Harvey as he hosted the most popular pageant several times. He was the host when Pia Wurtzbach won the competition in 2015. Harvey mistakenly mentioned the name of Miss Colombia, instead of Miss Philippines.
Based on the article in Manila Bulletin, Harvey will no longer be the host of next year’s competition. MUO CEO Amy Emmerich announced that the organization ended its contract with the seasoned TV personality.
“Among the changes in the move: Steve Harvey, who had hosted for five years as part of the pageant’s deal with Fox (with the exception of 2021, when that pact was paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic), also won’t be back. According to Miss Universe Organization CEO Amy Emmerich, a new host — expected to be a female — will be announced in the coming weeks,” Emmerich said in an interview.
The 71st Miss Universe Competition will happen on January 14, 2023, and will be broadcast live from New Orleans. Pageant fans can also watch the streaming on The Roku Channel.
Emmerich said that the goal of the pageant organization is to see things from a woman’s perspective. Steve Harvey will be replaced by a female host. MUO is set to announce the female host in the coming days.
It was reported in October that the Thai-owned media and content conglomerate, JKN, announced the acquisition of the MUO from IMG. The company is run by CEO Anne Jukapong Jakrajutatip. Emmerich also said that they are aiming for a global audience and this is something that they are working on.
With the changes that are happening within the prestigious pageant, Emmerich said that Miss Universe will still feature the swimwear competition.
