Tips for Owners of Dogs on New Year’s Eve

1. Give your dog a lot of physical activities before the peak of fireworks or several hours before midnight.

Tiring your dogs is one way to keep them calm and more relaxed amid the peak of the fireworks outside your home. Make sure to take your dog on a walk in the morning and even do it again in the late afternoon when the sun is about to go down. You can also play with your dogs like the “Fetch” game that most dogs love.

However, be mindful of the firecrackers around if you will walk your dogs outside on the day before New Year. It is important to keep your dog on leash during the walk. Some dog owners make sure their pets have ID or GPS tracker.

2. Make a safe space for your dogs indoors.

One of the ways to ease the stress of your dogs amid the New Year celebrations is to create a safe space for them. Most dogs would feel relaxed in an enclosed room that minimizes the sounds outside. Prepare sheets, food, water, and toys for your dogs.

3. Play some music.

The noise on New Year’s eve or even hours before midnight is what will stress your dog a lot. Many dogs even want to escape from their houses as the noise can trigger anxiety. To reduce their stress, you can play some soft music inside a room. Choose a music that they are used to and which would take their attention.

4. Spend quality time with your dogs.

It is a big factor for dogs to have quality time with their furparents as it can relax them amid the stress caused by firecrackers’ noise. Hug your dogs, play with them, or do anything that you both enjoy.
