Netizens Criticize Arjo Atayde for being One of the Authors of Maharlika Investment Fund
Quezon City 1st District Representative Arjo Atayde was criticized by the netizens after they learned that he was among the authors of the Maharlika Investment Fund.
Atayde was elected as the first district congressman of Quezon City in the May 2022 elections. He then joined the Nacionalista Party (NP) and was sworn in by NP member and House Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander “Sandro” Marcos.
Rep. Sandro Marcos, Rep. Yedda Romualdez, Rep. Martin Romualdez, Rep. Mannix Dalipe, Rep. Stella Quimbo, Rep. Joey Salceda, Rep. Camille Villar, Rep. Albert Garcia, Rep. Janette Garin, and others are among the authors.
Meanwhile, Arjo was chastised by internet users, particularly AlDub fans and followers of former on-screen partners Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza. Here are some of the criticisms leveled towards him.
“Arjo Atayde??? In the Maharlika Fund Scam??? Maybe we should support the AlDub fans this time and find the baby,” said @geeyanii.
“G*go sinira na nga ni Arjo Atayde ang #AlDub nation, pati rin pala ang nation. pick a struggle sis,” @ezrhance said.
“We don’t often talk about how Arjo Atayde has turned into a trapo by joining BBM’s party and now supporting this bill. Maybe Aling Mila has a point,” @parksodamned said.
The proposed Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF), House Bill 6608, now has at least 200 authors in the House of Representatives. It will be generated from the investible funds of the state-run Land Bank of the Philippines (P50 billion), the Development Bank of the Philippines (P25 billion), and the dividends and profits of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, according to the bill submitted.
Speaker Martin Romualdez introduced the bill on November 28, and the committee on banks and financial intermediaries approved it on December 1. Economic Advisors to Marcos Jr. Government highly support this as they consider this as a “vehicle to bring forward the Agenda for Prosperity and achieve the economic goals of the administration”.
