Joey de Leon revealed something about Toni Gonzaga
Henyo Master Joey de Leon admitted his “tampo” to Ultimate Multimedia Star Toni Gonzaga when she decided to leave the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga.
After doing commercials and minor TV appearances, Toni was given a chance to be part of the Kapuso noontime show that was started by three icons in the entertainment industry, Joey, Tito, and Vic Sotto.
However, the actress-host decided to transfer to ABS-CBN. In a recent interview, for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2022 entry My Teacher, Joey revealed that he didn’t like Toni’s decision to leave Eat Bulaga to be a Kapamilya star.
“Wala, eh, baby namin ‘to, eh. So, wala. Hindi mo naman… selfish lang kami noon, pero good for her. Natutuwa kami sa nangyari. ‘Yun lang. Nakikita ko naman ‘to, eh,” Joey de Leon shared.
On the other hand, Joey said that she is happy with what Toni has achieved. “Buti napangasawa mo si Paul, ‘di ba? Sipsip sa direktor!” the Henyo Master jokingly added.
Then, Toni shared that even though she left the Kapuso noontime show, the communication between her and Joey did not stop. The actress-host even remembered that when she and Direk Paul were not yet married, Joey invited them to dinner.
“’Yung upuan nating dalawa, ‘di ko pinatanggal, nag-renovate na kami, nandu’n pa rin,” Joey enthused.
When asked what made him accept this movie project, the veteran comedian-host shared that he had received several offers already to do a movie for the film festival and when he knew that his friend Vic Sotto will not do a movie this year, he accepted the offer from Paul and Toni.
Joey de Leon also cited the story of the movie as one of the factors that made him say yes to this project. “Medyo madrama pero medyo pinipilit kong…binigyan ako ng free hand ni Direk na sumundot,” the Henyo Master.
