Cops Raided An Online Lending Company Defaming Customers Online
Police authorities raided an online lending company for allegedly threatening and defaming customers who could not pay.
According to a report by GMA News, complaints about an online loan company that intimidated and embarrassed customers who couldn’t pay were sent to the Philippine National Police (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group. The Sand Cash Lending Investors Lending Corporation on Maceda Street in Manila was raided by the authorities.
The employees were caught inside using their computers there. According to one of the victims, the P2,000 he owed included more than 50% interest. The victim revealed that they were first polite but started cursing after three or four times of failing payment.
“Nung una mabait pa sila sa amin, ngayon yung pang tatlong beses ata o apat, doon na sila nagmumura. Tapos ‘yung mga katrabaho ko pati misis ko, mine-message. Tapos sinamahan ng may mura,” the victim said.
Based on the report, Some of the staff members disputed that they apparently embarrassed customers who couldn’t pay. Authorities claim that they could be subject to serious threats, online slander, and gadget abuse.
“Yung mga incorporators nito based on the registered names under the Securities And Exchange Commission, they will be included on the filling of the case,” according to Police Lieutenant Colonel Jay Guillermo, PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group, Chief PIO.
Police Major Ely Compuesto of the AGC Eastern District said that they will wait to see what the ongoing forensic investigation can reveal; if any criminal activity is discovered, all computers and other electronic devices will be seized. In the meantime, they are still attempting to obtain a statement from the alleged lending company.
