MMDA Enforcer Accused of “Pangongotong” Arrested in Quezon City
A traffic enforcer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was arrested after being accused of “pangongotong” in Quezon City.
The MMDA personnel was detained by the authorities after reportedly extorting money from a truck driver in Quezon City. Lt. Anthony Dacquel, the head of the criminal investigation division of the Quezon City Police District, identified the suspect as MMDA traffic enforcer Raul Lapore.
Dacquel claims that Lapore was detained while allegedly extorting Crisli Rife, a truck driver. Lapore, according to Rife, pulled him over after being stopped while operating a truck on Congressional Avenue because it was not in the truck lane.
Rife explained that he did not enter the truck lane because his cargo was about to hit the center island. According to the report, Rife was to receive a violation ticket from the traffic cop.
However, to avoid getting a ticket, the truck driver allegedly just gave P300 to Lapore. Dacquel clarified that they had previously received a complaint from a truck driver who claimed Lapore had trampled him there.
Because of this, the police patrolled the area and spotted the suspect stopping a truck driven by Rife. Based on the report, Lapore denied the allegation and said it was forced. The police have arrested the suspect who is facing a charge of robbery extortion.
