A 5-year-old Filipina Kid Becomes the Youngest World Jiu-Jitsu Champion

A 5-year-old Filipina kid was hailed as the Youngest World Jiu-Jitsu champion after she defeat her opponent in the Abu Dhabi tournament.

On November 11, during the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival, Aleia Aielle Aguilar, who is from Negros Occidental, won the gold medal in the Kids 1 Girls White Belt 16kg-B division. Aleia defeated Brazilian Gabriela Vercosa by submission in the finals.

It was not at all surprising that Aleia had potential in combat sports at such a young age. Aleia is the daughter of Alvin Aguilar, the president of the oldest Filipino Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC).

In 2009, Maybelline Masuda, her mother, became the first Filipino woman to win the jiu-jitsu world championship. In addition, Masuda won the nation’s first-ever gold medal at the 2014 Asian Beach Games, based on the article of Spin.

Her happy mother witnessed Aguilar in the championship match, and she reported that Aguilar’s opponent had just submitted to a heavy sprawl from Aleia, which had caused the Brazilian youth to give up. The armbar is Masuda’s daughter’s go-to maneuver, she claimed.

“She was born into jiu-jitsu. I was bringing her with me to training after giving birth to her when she was as young as three weeks old. Every training day, competition day, she grew up with jiu-jitsu in her life and it eventually became her dream to compete,” Masuda said.

“I’m beyond happy that my baby girl is now the Philippines’ youngest world champion. We will continue to work hard to bring honor to our country,” said the proud father, who is also president of the Wrestling Association of the Philippines.
