CSB players filed a complaint against John Amores

Jose Rizal University basketball player John Amores is now facing a physical injury complaint that was filed by the College of St. Benilde basketball players Jimboy Pasturan and Taine Davis.

Videos of Amores having his punching spree during the JRU-CSB game circulated online and brought shock to many NCAA fans. He was criticized because of this, especially since the fact surfaced that he received the Best in Sportsmanship award before.

The NCAA Management Committee has issued a resolution suspending Amores indefinitely from the league. Following this issue, Pasturan and Davis, together with their coach Charles Uy and their legal counsel Atty. Aldwin Salumbides went to San Juan City Prosecutor’s Office on Friday to file a physical injury complaint against John Amores.

Based on the report from ABS-CBN, Atty. Salumbides said that this is not just a simple punching incident but a crime already. “It is something that should not be taken lightly,” he said. The lawyer also said that upon watching the video, anyone could tell that there was an “outrage.”

Atty. Salumbides also said that they want to ask John Amores why he did that and it is not the first time that he was involved in this kind of incident. A reporter asked the lawyer if Amores reached out already to the players of CSB, with Pasturan having a visible blackeye.

The lawyer said this is something that saddened them that Amores has no effort to reach out to his fellow basketball players. “Hindi lang pananakit ito eh, krimen ito. We were hoping that he would reach out, pero if he’s not doing that, we’re then ones reaching with the long arm of the law,” Pasturan and Davis’s legal counsel said.

Coach Charles Tiu said that they asked their prayers to give their forgiveness and understand what happened and they did. However, this does not mean that they will not seek legal remedies for the victims. “Siyempre, we have to be liable to the consequences of what we’ve done,” the basketball coach said.

Tiu also said that they hope everything will be settled down so that they could concentrate on playing basketball.
