Piolo Pascual has this initial reaction when he was first called Papa Pi
A-list actor Piolo Pascual shared who gave him the Papa Pi nickname and at first, he admitted he did not like it.
Piolo has paved his way to stardom through his talent and charm. From doing supporting roles, he eventually proved that he can handle lead roles in different genres, whether on the small or big screen.
Over the years, the nickname Papa Pi was attached to him. He even did a sitcom titled My Papa Pi with Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach. In an interview on Korina Interviews, seasoned journalist Korina Sanchez asked the A-list actor how his nickname in showbiz started.
Piolo Pascual shared that it was Comedy Concert Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas who first called him that. The actor said it was during the time when he guested on the Kapamilya defunct noontime show Sang Linggo Na Po Sila.
He admitted that initially, he did not like that nickname. “For me, parang mockery,” the actor said. When he was asked why he did not like it, Piolo said that he was young at that time and he thought that it was inappropriate for his age.
Korina said, “Papa ng bayan” and that it was a compliment. Piolo has accepted now that this nickname was a compliment.
In a portion of the interview, Korina asked her guest if there was ever a time that he had an “attitude” with all the success that he has achieved. Piolo admitted that it is inevitable but his family keeps him grounded.
Every time he comes home, he does not feel like he is a celebrity because his family treated him the same as how they treated him before he became famous. “Pwede pa rin nila akong utusan,” the actor shared, adding that his family does not feed his ego.
