Paolo Gumabao Gets Subpoena from PNP over TikTok Video Wearing SAF Uniform
Actor Paolo Gumabao receives a subpoena from the Philippine National Police (PNP) for dancing on social media while wearing a SAF uniform.
Paolo disclosed that the PNP Special Action Force (SAF) had served him with a subpoena during a press conference on Monday at Pandan Asia Cafe in Quezon City. Gumabao claimed that when filming a dance video that was posted on his social media sites, he was dressed in a SAF uniform.
The PNP demanded that he appear in court after becoming upset over what he had done to their outfit on his TikTok video. Gumabao appears in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival film “Mamasapano: Now It Can Be Told” (MMFF).
“Well, I learned one lesson. Hindi na ako magti-TikTok next time pag alam kong may suot akong insignia.” Gumabao said.
“Nag-start yun sa isang TikTok video ko na suot ko yung uniform ng SAF and I was dancing. Ginaya ko yung TikTok ni Joshua Garcia. So, na-offend sila dun and I understand naman siyempre. So at least, ako, lesson learned, hindi na po mauulit.” he added.
Fortunately, Gumabao said that Atty. Ferdinand Topacio, who is also the film’s producer, kept the situation from getting worse. He said that Topacio actually assisted him because he had no knowledge of it.
“Gusto kong magpasalamat sa producer naming si Atty. Ferdie Topacio. Kasi si Attorney was very helpful nung time na yun. Tinulungan talaga niya ako, kasi I know nothing about it.
Kasi, apat yata kaming pinadalhan. Kaming apat, nag-TikTok kami.” he added.
He acknowledged that Topacio’s handling of the case resulted in its dismissal. RA 3815 states that anyone who openly or improperly wears insignia, uniforms, or dress that is associated with an office they do not hold or a class of people they are not a member of is subject to legal action.
