Ninong Ry garnered admiration due to his recent vlog but this was criticized by a lawyer
Vlogger chef Ninong Ry shared his “Nagluto sa Preso” vlog on October 25 and this was slammed by Atty. Ranny Randolf Libayan because of this particular portion.
The vlogger chef received positive feedback for doing a charitable endeavor amid the time when an issue surfaced between vloggers. He is admired by many as he showed the true meaning of being an influencer.
However, a portion of his vlog was slammed by Atty. Libayan. In the latter part of his vlog, the vlogger chef interviewed Gabriel Salamat, the restorative justice program officer of Caritas Manila. He explained that their department is helping the healing process that prisoners and their families, as well as the victims, have to go through.
Ninong Ry asked Gabriel why there were prisoners who are supposed to be in jail for three years only but they stayed longer. Atty. Libayan questioned the credibility of Cabriel to speak about the nature of the justice system in the Philippines.
Gabriel cited that the number one reason for this is “poverty.” He explained that cases are being delayed because there are prisoners who are really poor and can’t afford to pay for a private lawyer. Atty. Libayan said that Gabriel does not know what he was saying because it is stated in the Miranda doctrine that if an accused cannot afford to pay for a lawyer he or she will be given one.
The lawyer also stressed that there are a lot of groups that offer free legal assistance. Gabriel also stressed that another cause of delay is when judges and witnesses could not come to the court. Atty. Libayan said that this is true but this kind of situation can fall under “unavoidable circumstances.”
Gabriel also cited that due to congested jails, the hearings are delayed. “So paano? Nakapila sila pag lalabas sila?” Atty. Libayan said. The lawyer added, “Kung maggagaling-galingan tayo, galingan na natin. Mag-research tayo, may trabaho nga tayo na feeling natin trabaho natin, di ba. Oh di galingan mo na sa trabaho mo. Wag yung imbento-imbento.”
Atty. Libayan said that as this was shown on Ninong Ry’s vlog, people who saw this would take Gabriel Salamat as an authority and that he knows what he is saying.
