6 ‘Sabungeros’ Arrested after Caught Playing Online Sabong in Pasig
Police authorities arrested six (6) ‘sabungeros’ after they were caught in the act playing online sabong in Pasig City.
Six males were taken into custody by EDACT agents after they were found betting on cockfights online in Barangay Pinagbuhatan, Pasig City. Online sabong was banned by the government, making online gambling illegal now.
Initial research indicates that EDACT received a complaint from a worried local who claimed that some people were “seriously playing” online cockfighting at a store in the barangay. EDACT troops carried out surveillance and validation operations under the direction of the team leader Maj. Ely Compuesto II is located inside the shop.
According to a statement from Compuesto, the suspects were “caught in the act of using Julius Francisco’s mobile to gamble online.” Before being transported to the Detention Cell of the Pasig City Police Station, the suspects were registered and given paperwork at the EDACT office.
The suspects were named by EDACT as tricycle drivers Roger Altiche, Julius Francisco, and Monddie Castrono; jeepney driver Rolando Belen; motor shop owner Noe Ronapo; and collector Manuel Pangos, based on the report.
They are facing a charge of violating Presidential Decree 1602 on illegal gambling, in relation to Section 6 of Republic Act No. 10175 or the “Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.”
According to Joe Pisano, chief executive officer of Jade Entertainment and Gaming Technologies, Inc., after the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (Pagcor) suspended operations of e-sabong, gamblers began looking for other online cockfighting games to play. Some of these games are not governed by Pagcor.
