Senator Robin Padilla Wants Filipino Heroes to be Featured in Bank Notes
Senator Robinhood “Robin” Padilla appealed to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to feature Filipino heroes in money or bank notes.
During the hearing of the Senate Committee on Banks, Financial Institutions, and Currencies, the senator appealed to the BSP to include Filipino heroes in the banknotes of the Philippines. According to him, this is the way that Filipinos will know the heroes of the country.
He emphasized it is also very important for education for all of us if our heroes are featured in money because all Filipinos, regardless of gender or age, always see money. He believes that it is important for his compatriots to understand who they are, based on his statement.
Mamerto Tangonan, deputy governor of the BSP, said that the theme of heroes can be brought back because the use of design is consistent with the “Filipino people and its culture.” Last year’s heroes were used as the theme, and this year the Philippine Eagle is used as an “endangered indigenous species that we are all proud of.”
Padilla lamented, on the other hand, that many of our children no longer know our heroes. He mentioned the viral video in which neither they nor Apolinario Mabini was familiar with Gomburza.
