Pimentel Flags Robin Padilla: “I am the chairman of PDP-Laban”

Koko Pimentel Flags Robin Padilla after Tagging Rodrigo Duterte as PDP-Laban Chairman

Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel calls out Robinhood “Robin” Padilla for tagging former president Rodrigo Duterte as the chairman of the PDP-Laban party.

After Padilla tagged Duterte as the leader of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), the Senate Minority Leader criticized him. This took place at the Senate Finance Committee’s hearing on the proposed budget for the judiciary.

Padilla asked for the opinion of the judiciary officials regarding the proposal of Atty. Estelito Mendoza to dissolve the Judicial Bar Council because the appointment of members is centered only on the president and without the participation of members of Congress. Padilla mentioned Mendoza’s previous statement in a case during the Duterte administration, which the senator labeled the chairman of PDP-Laban.

Even Associate Justice Midas Marquez of the Supreme Court identified Duterte as the leader of the PDP-Laban, based on the report. Pimentel slammed Padilla while stating that the Supreme Court is now considering the party leadership’s appeal.

“Sorry to be raising this but we might be subject to court rules in the future. Senator Padilla mentioned a name as chairman of the PDP Laban and that is not correct as far as this representation is concerned because I am the chairman of the original PDP-Laban party,” said Pimentel.

“Because we are talking to the Supreme Court justices, maybe this issue will reach the Supreme Court just so they know that the PDP-laban chairman is this representation as far as my original party is concerned,” he added.

Immediately after entering Pimentel, Padilla begged to leave. Senator Padilla quickly apologized following Senator Koko’s remarks. Senator Pimentel promptly accepted Padilla’s apologies.

“I’m apologizing to our minority leader… I’m sorry because I know the Supreme Court has already decided against the PDP, so what? I’m sorry, I had no intention of rushing or anything. I’m just following. Sorry, minority leader,” said Padilla.

Recall that Padilla just assumed the position of Executive Vice President for the PDP-Laban faction headed by former Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, who is also the group’s leader. A division of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) decided that Cusi’s group would be acknowledged as the real or legitimate party three days before the 2022 elections.
