Bato Dela Rosa Says Kidnappings Indicates Illegal Drug Problem In PH Is Back

BATO DELA ROSA – Senator Bato dela Rosa said the increase in kidnappings and other crimes shows that the illegal drug problem in the Philippines is returning.

Ronald Marapon dela Rosa a.k.a Bato is a Filipino politician and retired police officer. He currently serves as a senator of the Philippines since 2019.

Bato served under Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s administration as the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) from July 1, 2016, to April 19, 2018. He now chairs the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs.

During his recent interview with AM radio station DWIZ, Sen. Bato dela Rosa was asked for his reaction to recent reports of kidnappings in the country. He said the increase in kidnapping and other crimes shows that the illegal drug problem in the Philippines is back.

“You know, no one in their right mind would do such a thing. If they’re not addicted to drugs, these idiots would not do that…”

“So this is one of the indicators that drugs are returning here because the crimes are being committed in the open. Most of them are done under the influence of drugs,” he added.

Bato dela Rosa raised the alarm on the recent allegations of kidnappings in many parts of the country, especially involving women and Filipino-Chinese. He said that his committee might hold a public hearing regarding the incidents.

Sen. Grace Poe had already submitted a resolution asking Bato’s committee and other committees dealing with crime concerns to look into the kidnappings. Lugene Ang, the president of the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., said in Poe’s resolution that there have been 56 kidnappings “over the last 10 days” from September 6.

The PNP refuted Ang’s claim, stating that just 27 kidnapping incidents had been reported to them thus far this year.
